Vue d’installation / installation view Textiles instalativos: del medio al lugar, 2021, CAAC Sevilla, Spain

The CAAC is hosting an exhibition of 11 large-scale works by six artists from different generations and backgrounds until May 2022. It illustrates how art has liberated textiles from the domestic sphere and the simple functionality to which they seemed condemned, and turned them into a language of protest to depict the world.

Ulla Von Brandenburg invites us to “get out of our habits to see clearly, to adopt different points of view to see the world in a new way”.

‘Paysages du temps zéro’ (Landscapes from time zero) gathers recent works on paper by Vidya Gastaldon. The title of the exhibition does not refer to the time of childhood but rather the time of the first drawings by the artist after her art studies.

‘Warning Graphic Content’, brings together all of Jeremy Deller’s print and poster works from 1993-2021. It will be exhibited in two locations concurrently: at The Modern Institute, Glasgow (06.11.2021 – 22.01.2022) and at Art : Concept, Paris.

Vue d’exposition / installation view Histoires d’abstractions. Le cauchemar de Greenberg, Fondation Pernod Ricard, Paris, 2021-2022. Courtesy of the artist and Art : Concept, Paris. Photo Thomas Lannes

The exhibition returns to the thought of Clement Greenberg (1909-1994) who dominated abstraction thinking for decades. Far from this statement, the exhibition attempts to show the relationship that abstraction has today with narrative, history and a look at the world. Whether political, cosmogonic, ecological or feminist, these works proclaim, each in its own way, the transitive and resolutely contextual dimension of abstraction – which is precisely what Greenbergian modernism had tried to repress.
